Do You Need a Gun Trust?
Not everyone who owns a firearm needs a Gun Trust. In fact, unless you own just certain types of firearms or explosives, no such trust is needed.
Gun Trusts are a solution to a problem created under federal law. That law requires a special permit for specific types of weapons. But it only applies to the following:
• Fully-automatic weapons (that fire multiple times with a single trigger pull)
• Sawed off rifles or shotguns with barrels that have been artificially shortened
• Silencers or suppressors
• Hand grenades or other explosive materials
For those who own one or more of these items, a Gun Trust is a good idea.
But for the rest of us who have more mundane firearms, no separate trust is required.
